Tallgrass has been helping Game, Fish, and Parks implement improvements around Sylvan Lake for years. We’ve tackled everything from the raw slope left from the cabin installations above the store to the store itself. We designed the wedding deck, trail improvements, and the new stairs and overlook behind the dam.
This work holds special significance for us - it's our lake. We’ve been coming here our whole lives and have memories from every era of our lives here. Being invited back means so much to us, and we’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand the detrimental impacts of increased visitation on this famous destination.
Our role has been to find design solutions that fit into the park, respect the lake, and provide natural boundaries for the visitors. Limiting the impacts of the thousands of daily footfalls is the mission. Sometimes it's the trail, sometimes it’s the fence, sometimes it’s a sign reminding us to be our better selves and respect the damage our impulsive pull to the water can leave.
Please visit this place - everyone’s favorite place - and enjoy the unsurpassed beauty of Custer State Park. Pick up your trash, stay on the trail, and be careful!. The trail is still more difficult than you might expect when you first start down the smooth gravel byway.
